tomato season

Bria and I had a very successful shopping day. I'm SO glad that I work for my favorite store (and therefore get the most out of my discount). We picked up these amazing comfy warm sweaters from Banana Republic, and a cute purple hoodie from Gap along with some basic tanks. San Francisco's weather has been so strange lately, I think it's smart to invest in layers.

Bria brought over all the "leftovers" she had in her fridge/apartment and totally made my day - milk, eggs, tomatoes, an avocado, amazing stir fry sauces, frozen veggies, teas, and all kinds of other goodies. I wanted to use the perishables first, so I went to 101 Cookbooks, made a shopping list, and went to Real Foods (aka, Real Expensive, but it's close and always has what I'm looking for in the exotic/weird/healthy department).

The menu for the rest of the week? TLT Sandwich recipe (marinated tempeh, roasted tomato, lettuce, and avocado) and Lentil Soup, which should reheat really nicely. The tomatoes are roasting as we speak. If they taste half as good as the pictures look, I'll be happy!

Giants game pictures, as promised:

hungry!

Perhaps if I start writing a blog entry, Bria will arrive. Isn't that how it always works - you go to the bathroom, and your food is there when you come back to the table? We have a lunch and shopping date that I'm very excited about - though I'm sad to see her leave...

Let's see, what'd I do this week? My weekend flew by, unfortunately, because I worked on Saturday, and now of course the beautiful weather has completely disappeared. Tim and I went to a Giants game last Wednesday, which was exceptionally cool because we were 5 rows behind home plate! Awesome seats. We ate overpriced hot dogs and drank overpriced beer, and I even attempted some garlic fries (wasn't impressed, reeked of garlic for the rest of the evening). Unfortunately the game was pretty boring, so we left at the bottom of the 6th inning when the Giants were down 0-3, but of COURSE they ended up scoring 4 home runs after we left and won the game. I insist that they wouldn't have won if we had stayed, so I claim full responsibility for their victory.

And here's Bria! I'll post pictures later. To be continued...

taco tuesday

My apartment situation is really, really starting to stress me out. I know that I'm sweating the small stuff, and that I shouldn't let it get to me as much as it is, but the level of uncertainty going forward (in the next two months - people potentially moving out, not being able to sign a lease, etc) is making me so sick that I'm about half a second away from jumping ship. This place was never worth the fight we put up to get it.

Plus, I want a kittie... please?

Let's see, in other news, I'm wondering whether or not I should cancel Comcast's installation this Friday, since god knows if I'll be able to stay in this apartment... I've begun to suspect that my coworkers have more food/body issues than most of my sorority sisters, which is a little bit distressing, and I have a 7AM shift tomorrow morning to look forward to. Barf.

But on the bright side, I had the most AMAZING taco this weekend that I can't stop thinking about. Tim, Dave and I went to the SF Street Food Festival this Saturday for a late lunch, only to be confronted with hour-long lines and growling stomachs. So, we walked down the block to this place called La Taqueria (the name says it all) on 24th and Mission, where we waited only 20 minutes in line for these kickass tacos (I got pork, Tim got steak). It may have been the best taco I've ever had - and tonight's $2 tacos at Nick's Crispy Tacos just didn't fit the bill. I'll have to go back to the Mission soon to get my fix... and then head over to Bi-Rite for some cinnamon snickerdoodle ice cream while I'm at it. Ha, for my health's sake, it might be better to avoid the neighborhood entirely?

shopping overload

Oh my - where to begin?

Let's start with the job: I'm exactly 2 weeks in, and having a blast. I *love* the people I work with - my fellow RMPs are super chill, and we've been hanging out a lot in our off time. We have one more week of working in the stores (yes - folding clothes, finding your size, etc), and while making display cases look pretty can be highly meditative, I'm anxious to start my *actual* job. My first rotation will be doing merchandising for Old Navy Online, in the Women's Plus Size division (check it out!), and I'm excited for the challenge.

I've been doing a lot of cooking lately - a side effect of poverty more than creativity, but I've had some pretty tasty adventures nonetheless. Tim and I made a delicious Pork Tenderloin with Balsamic Onion Fig Relish, and I whipped up some delicious Curried Egg Salad as recommended by my mom. And of course there have been some less successful dishes - a bland pasta, an iffy wheat berry salad (I have to remember that I don't like parsley - the salad was extremely time consuming, and though I plan on eating the leftovers, it would be a LOT better without the parsley bitterness).

How about some pictures?

First, my fab room in my fab apartment, as assembled by my fab parents (i could never have done it without them):

And my trip to LA for Tim's friend's wedding:

I want a cat SO badly...

Now that my life has returned to a semblance of normalcy, I promise promise to post more often. xoxo!
